The weather certainly challenged two great events this weekend, but our staff and volunteers had a great time at both the AUM “Find a Friend” Adoption Day and the Millbrook Possum Festival. Many thanks to the AUM American Humanics Department and the Millbrook Theatre for inviting us to these great events and to everyone who helped us out: Tink Lucy-Bouler; Wendy, Chloe & Bryndie Kidd; Anna Adams; Meagan Lemacks; Ellen Fallon; Jan Darby; Jennifer Tritz; Claudia Rigsby; Courtney Dasinger; Tracey & Kyra Nichols; Katherine Cooper; Kathleen Nall; and Lindsey Terry.

It is finally here! BARK IN THE PARK 2009!!! We hope you have planned to join us this Sunday, 27 Sep, starting at 1 pm at Ft. Toulouse in Wetumpka. This pet friendly event has something for everyone – our ever popular Pet Contests; Wetumpka Police K9 demonstration at 1:30; dog agility demonstrations at 2, 2:30 & 3 pm; music by Cecil & the Polyphonics; great food & refreshments; children’s games; arts and crafts vendors; a microchip clinic from 2-4 ($26 for the chip and registration); the great cars from the Capitol City Street Rod Association; pony rides; Meet the Breed and Breed Rescue groups; adoptable dogs from our shelter; our very cool purple Bark in the Park 2009 T-Shirt for only $10 and so much more! There is a $5 admission fee for those 13 and older and we will have someone at the gate of Ft. Toulouse to take money and give you a map and schedule of the events. We have worked with Ft. Toulouse to expand the parking so you will be able to get to the fun that much quicker! All dogs must be leashed, good in public and have a current rabies tag on their collar (or you can have their certificate with you). For full details (recently updated) just click on the banner the top of our website at www.elmorehumane.com or give us a call at 334-567-3377. We are hoping for a dry and sunny day, but do have Sunday, 4 October as a rain date in the event of bad weather. As always we need lots of volunteers to make this a success, so if you want to help please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Charline Pope at popecharlie@russellcorp.com or give her a call at 514-7088.
And so that we can prepare for Bark in the Park on Sunday, we will not be doing any pet adoptions at the area PETsMARTs this Saturday, 26 Sep.
“Spend the afternoon. You can't take it with you.” ~Annie Dillard
