And the ten winners who elected to get $1000 each from our first “Gettin’ Down with the Dawgs” Drawdown are: Russell Chaffman, Christopher Lanier, Jacquelyn Blackwell, Linda Hill, Renee Avesy, Julia Crotty, Susan Lanier, James Deavers, Rescue K911 & Donnie McAnnally! As it got closer and closer, once we hit these last ten contenders they all got together and decided that $1000 in the hand was better than waiting to see if they just might win the entire $10,000!

The turnout for our DrawDown exceeded all of our expectations and we appreciate everyone’s patience as the folks at Bonnie Crest scrambled to keep the food flowing and find spaces for everyone. We certainly learned a lot of lessons and we will be completely prepared for such a huge crowd next year and isn’t that just a wonderful problem to have! We can’t thank Kim and Jim Baker, and all the staff at Bonnie Crest for putting this event on to benefit our shelter. To the board who helped make this event happen and everyone who sold tickets for us – thank you so very much! And most importantly, to everyone who bought a ticket we truly can’t thank you enough! We know buying a $100 ticket is no small feat in these challenging times, so to do that in support of our animals is truly humbling. As a result of everyone’s generosity we brought in right around $13,000 for our shelter and our animals! Simply wonderful!!!
Now we can’t rest on our laurels for very long as fund raising is absolutely critical to our ability to keep helping as many animals as we can and now is the time to announce the next event for our shelter sponsored by Leadership Elmore County 2010! For this you can bring your appetite and dancing shoes and join us on Friday, 26 March 2010 starting at 7 pm at the Wetumpka Civic Center for the “Fur Ball!” Leadership Elmore County chose us as their project for this year and with the money earned from the “Fur Ball” we are going to be able to clean up our parking lot by cutting back the dirt bank a bit that parallels Hwy 9 and build a timber wall there. This will not only enhance the appearance, but stop the dirt wash from the hill and increase the parking area so we are tremendously excited. Food will be catered by White Wings Catering, music will be by Slim and Band (Harriott Blues Cruise) and there will also be a Silent Auction. Tickets are $60/individual and $100/couple and can be purchased from any member of Leadership Elmore County. To find out where you can purchase tickets, contact Leah Cox at 334-514-7373 or email her at lcox@riverbankandtrust.com . And if you might be able to donate door prizes or silent auction items, let Leah know that as well.
As you can see, our calendar stays pretty busy which is what it takes to keep us going. So if you want to check what we have scheduled throughout the year just go to our completely revamped website at www.elmorehumane.com and to our 2010 Events Calendar which you can view in both calendar and text form.

Pet-of-the-Week
Spats is a ten month old male Beagle/Rat Terrier who is about 35 lbs so won’t get much bigger. He is just a great boy, good with other dogs, very playful and needs a family to call his own. Our adoption fee is $100 for dogs & $80 for our cats and covers their mandatory spay/or neuter, basic immunizations, de-worming, microchip, heartworm check for dogs, rabies vaccination if old enough, and a free health exam. To see Spats or any other of our great pets, come to the shelter at 255 Central Plank Road, Wetumpka, AL, 36092, call us at 334-567-3377 or go to our website at www.elmorehumane.com . We are open for adoptions Mon-Thu 10-4, Fri 10-5 and Sat from 9-3.
