Humane Society of Elmore County News – 1 March 2010
Pet-of-the-Week

Thelma is a two-three year old, female Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix who is about 90 lbs and came to us as a stray no one ever claimed. She loves everyone, is great with dogs and cats, seems to be housetrained but will need a good fence to keep her home safe.
Ladies – would you like to learn some self-defense techniques and help our shelter? Then join us this Saturday, 6 March from 2-4 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church, Hwy 231 in Wetumpka for a Women’s Self Defense Seminar. Karate Master Instructor (4th Dan, Black Belt) Bob Harris is offering this training on behalf of our shelter on the 6th, and then again on March 20th . All he asks is that shelter members bring an item from the shelter needs list and non-members to become a member for only the $20 shelter membership and an item from the needs list. Our needs list is on our website at http://www.elmorehumane.org/basic_needs_list.htm but we can save you a bit of time as right now we are in need of dry dog food. For some reason our supply is again low, so any dry dog food would be greatly appreciated. To sign up either stop by the shelter at 255 Central Plank Road in Wetumpka, call 334-567-3377 or email us at hselco@bellsouth.net . The maximum class size is 24 so don’t delay – sign up today!

Have you checked out our website lately? Our webmaster has done an incredible redesign and we think it looks GREAT! For those who check out our website routinely this will be a bit like the way stores move their products around – you just might find something new as you figure out where everything is so have fun surfing at www.elmorehumane.com .

Speaking of websites – we seem to be stuck at #2 on The Animal Rescue Site Shelter Challenge, so need everyone out there to click for us daily and get all your friends and family to do the same so we can win another $1000 in April. Go to www.animalrescuesite.com and then to the Shelter Challenge tab on the right side of the page – it’s easy!

Our Tails End Thrift Store is planning for spring, so all winter clothes are ½ price! Stop by this Thu, Fri & Sat from 9 – 3 for some great deals on not only winter clothes, but furniture, books, collectibles, appliances, art, you name it. The store is co-located with our shelter!

Do you have your dancing shoes ready for “The Fur Ball” on Friday, 26 March starting at 7 pm at the Wetumpka Civic Center? Leadership Elmore County is putting this event on for us and you can look forward to an evening of great food by White Wings Catering and dancing to music by Slim and Band (Harriott Blues Cruise) for $60/person or $100/couple. Dress for this event is semi-formal which means dress or pants suit for women and coat and tie for men but keep in mind this is a fun evening, so make sure to put on your dancing shoes and bring an appetite! Tickets can be purchased from any member of Leadership Elmore County so contact Leah Cox at 334-514-7373 or email her at lcox@riverbankandtrust.com and she can point you to your closest ticket seller. We will also have some tickets at the shelter later this week, so feel free to stop by and see us as well. And if you are able to donate door prizes or silent auction items, let Leah know that as well.

Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. ~Dave Barry

Our adoption fee is $100 for dogs & $80 for our cats and covers their mandatory spay/or neuter, basic immunizations, de-worming, microchip, heartworm check for dogs, rabies vaccination if old enough, and a free health exam. To see Thelma or any other of our great pets, come to the shelter at 255 Central Plank Road, Wetumpka, AL, 36092, call us at 334-567-3377 or go to our website at www.elmorehumane.com . We are open for adoptions Mon-Thu 10-4, Fri 10-5 and Sat from 9-3.
