Humane Society of Elmore County News – 12 Jul ‘10
Pet-of-the-Week

Yosti is a six month old smaller Hound/Lab mix who is only about 30 lbs and was turned in for chasing the neighbors chickens. He is housetrained, loves everyone and is just a wonderful little guy who needs a home full of toys to keep him happy. Yosti’s adoption fee is $100 which covers his neuter, basic immunizations, de-worming, microchip, heartworm check for dogs, rabies vaccination if old enough, and a free health exam. And our cats and kittens still have a reduced adoption fee of $40 which still covers all of the normal adoption benefits. To see Yosti or any other of our great pets, come to the shelter at 255 Central Plank Road, Wetumpka, AL, 36092, call us at 334-567-3377 or go to our website at www.elmorehumane.org . We are open for adoptions Mon-Thu 10-4, Fri 10-5 and Sat from 9-3.

Thanks to Leadership Elmore County we invite everyone to stop by the shelter later this week to see the newly completed retaining wall in our parking lot. This wall has opened up are parking lot and just simply looks so much better than that previously bare dirt hill bordering the parking lot. We are going to work to get people to park diagonally which should help alleviate the parking mess visitors often find when they arrive. Thanks so very much to LEC for having “The Fur Ball” to raise funds for this event and to Malone Construction and Brian Newton for doing such excellent work!

So are you clicking for us daily? We are in the midst of The Animal Rescue Site Shelter Challenge and need to get out of this second place rut and back to #1 in the state. This is just too easy as it costs you nothing but about 30 seconds of your time once a day on your computer. Just go to this website: www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/shelterchallenge and vote for the Humane Society of Elmore County. You even set it up to send you a reminder email every day and you can vote on different computers to help even more. Just a few clicks and if we are #1 in the state when it ends in August we will win $1000 to help our animals. And this is a great thing (we think) to ask your friends, coworkers and family to do as well. We can always use an extra $1000 and it costs you nothing but a minute of time on your computer each day.

Reminding everyone that our Wags & Whiskers “Bone-A-Fit” Silent Auction is right around the corner. Join us on Friday, July 30th at the Wetumpka Civic Center, 212 S. Main Street, Wetumpka, starting at 6:30 pm for our biggest fund raising event of the year! All the money raised at our auction helps us keep our doors open to take in animals in need and help families find that next perfect pet. Besides supporting our shelter this is an event worth attending to find a few treasures and to enjoy a nice evening filled with food, fun and festivities. There are almost 400 items in our auction and you can see them all on our website at www.elmorehumane.org. There is something for everyone – guaranteed! Admission to this don’t miss event is $15 per person, or $25 per couple and besides all the great auction items, there will be yummy food, desserts & drinks (this is a BYOB event), door prizes, a live auction, Bill Dollar from WLWI as our MC, and just a super evening of fun. All items ‘won’ must be paid for at the end of the auction so you can take the item(s) home with you. See you on the 30th!

“Don't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.” David Frost
